Breaking Barriers: How GoodWork Is Transforming Early Careers in London
In the UK, a young person’s background remains one of the strongest predictors of their future success. In London, only 17% of young people from the lowest socioeconomic backgrounds progress into professional careers — a stark inequality our charity partner GoodWork is working to change. This inspiring charity is dedicated to creating meaningful employment opportunities for young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
With support from IICF, GoodWork is delivering its Early Careers Programme, a six-month initiative that equips young people aged 18–25 with the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to transition into sustained professional employment. Through a combination of training, mentoring, and direct employer connections, participants benefit from: Tailored employability training – including CV writing, Interview preparation, and real-world project work, Mentoring – ongoing support from industry professionals and Direct pathways into employment – through partnerships with inclusive employers recruiting from GoodWork cohorts.
Crucially, IICF funding helps remove practical barriers to participation — such as travel costs and access to safe, equipped spaces — ensuring that opportunities are accessible to those who need them most.
The impact is already clear. Of GoodWork’s programme graduates:
94% feel better prepared to enter the job market
75% move into long-term employment or further education during the programme
