Envision – building essential skills and confidence
Did you know that young people from less advantaged backgrounds are twice as likely to be out of work as their peers and develop essential skills at lower levels than their peers? This creates a cycle of disadvantage and inequity that affects young people’s life outcomes.
Envision is a charity that aspires to give all young people equal opportunities to develop their skills and confidence and ultimately be more successful at work and in life.
IICF’s 2024 grant allowed Envision to support 120 secondary school students in Birmingham to participate in a structured 12 -week programme to design, develop, and deliver a social action project that makes a positive change in their school community. There were three elements to the programme:
1. Weekly in-school team sessions facilitated by Envision.
2. Mentoring sessions at a local business to allow young people to work with mentors to develop their skills, confidence, and raise their aspirations.
3. Two milestones: the Pitch, where the young people present their initial project ideas and gain feedback, and the Final Presentation, where they showcase their skills development and project achievements to their peers, mentors, and a panel of judges. The winning team walks away with the Envision trophy.
