Envision – Helping young people build the skills to thrive
Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are twice as likely to be out of education, employment or training—and only half of this gap can be explained by academic attainment alone. This highlights the importance of helping young people develop not only their knowledge, but also the confidence and wider skills they need to navigate education and the world of work.
Envision is a charity dedicated to empowering young people from less-advantaged backgrounds to fulfil their potential. Through practical experiences, mentoring and targeted skills development, the charity helps young people build the confidence and capabilities they need to succeed.
With support from the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), Envision is delivering a programme for young people aged 13–15 across London. The programme gives participants the opportunity to develop essential skills while designing and delivering social action projects that create positive change in their schools and local communities.
Participants benefit from:
- Hands-on social action projects—designing and delivering initiatives that make a meaningful difference in their communities.
- Mentoring from corporate volunteers—helping to raise aspirations, broaden horizons and build confidence.
- Development of essential skills—including communication, teamwork, creativity and determination.
These “Essential Skills” are proven to support long-term success in education, employment and wellbeing. By applying them in real-world situations, young people can recognise their strengths, overcome challenges and see the impact they are capable of making.
The results are compelling. Across recent programmes, more than 90% of young people reported improved confidence, while up to 96% demonstrated progress in key skills such as communication and creativity. Importantly, 97% of participants maintained or continued to improve these skills 12 months later, demonstrating the programme’s lasting impact.
By combining meaningful social action with mentoring and structured skills development, Envision is helping young people unlock their potential, strengthen their future prospects and break cycles of disadvantage.
