Insightful discussion at our ESG Breakfast Briefing led by Sidley on 3 June

6th June 2025

Fantastic discussion on non-financial misconduct and the importance of an inclusive culture and IICF’s ESG Breakfast Briefing hosted by Sidley Austin LLP and led by Julie Lawrence-Rodríguez and Andrea Hynes.

A few of the many highlights shared by speakers James Phythian-Adams, Meena Anand, Sara George, William O’Connor, Ali Trauttmansdorff FCIPD and Anna Sweeney include:

  • These are complex issues. Although companies and regulators are still finding their way, we’ve come a long way and things are changing.
  • The S of ESG is all about people. Collaborate across functions, increase accountability and lead from the top to drive further change.
  • Culture has always been a strategic issue. Now leaders are more conscious of how it’s formed and its impact on employees and customers.
  • Foster a culture that values openness and align performance to drive the right kinds of behaviour.
  • Create new ways for leaders across levels to authentically connect, for instance through small, frequent events and community volunteering.
  •  Be brave – share your story so others recognise they’re not alone.
  • Help people understand kindness is what’s expected of them. Ultimately and simply put: be kind to others, a message echoed by Safia Jama MBE from Women’s Inclusive Team (WIT).

To echo James’ final remarks: Things are changing. Be brave and, most importantly, be kind.
