IICF supporters take fundraising to new heights for literacy charities

Five IICF board and committee members demonstrated courage, determination and an impressive head for heights this summer when they abseiled down London’s iconic 289ft-tall Lloyd’s building, collectively raising more than £8,500 for literacy charities.

Kieran Jones, Mark Trumper, Nicola Numa, Rowan Hostler and Wesley Braga took on the memorable challenge in support of IICF’s Creating Better Futures campaign. The funds they raised could provide hundreds of books to underserved libraries and help more children develop the reading skills they need to learn, grow and thrive.
The annual Lloyd’s Charity Abseil returned for its third year this summer and once again proved to be a tremendous success. Across two action-packed days, 150 participants descended the landmark building at One Lime Street, raising more than £165,000 for over 20 charities.

IICF’s five-strong team played an important part in that achievement, bringing together colleagues, friends and supporters from across the insurance community to support a cause with the power to transform lives.

Why literacy matters—for every generation
The need for action is clear. One in four children in the UK leaves primary school unable to read well, while around one in six adults in England has very poor literacy skills. These challenges can restrict educational progress, employment opportunities and social mobility throughout people’s lives.

Through its Creating Better Futures literacy campaign, IICF is raising funds for projects that nurture reading and communication skills among people of all ages. The campaign helps children discover a love of reading and supports adults in developing the skills they need to thrive—breaking cycles of disadvantage and opening doors to lifelong opportunity.

We thank Kieran, Mark, Nicola, Rowan and Wesley for taking fundraising to new heights, and to everyone who sponsored them. Their courage and generosity will help create brighter futures for individuals, families and communities.

In insurance, we often talk about protecting the future. Through Creating Better Futures, we are helping to build it—one page at a time.
