A journey to disability confidence
1st October 2024
On 24 September, IICF UK joined Lloyds and The Clear Company at Dive In for an interactive session on Embracing Inclusivity – A Journey to Disability Confidence.
The event was a fantastic opportunity to hear personal stories and new perspectives on two aspects of disability: neurodiversity and sight loss. A few highlights from the day include:
- As leaders, be curious, ask what you can do to help, be aware that everyone learns and thinks differently.
- Employers can take simple steps to be more accessible and inclusive and charities such as RNIB can offer support and advise.
- IT is just one way to break down barriers to employment and creating a culture of belonging is often more important.
The event formed part of IICF’s collaboration with its corporate and charity partners to break down barriers and create career pathways for people with sight loss.
Did you know that the disability employment gap is a shocking 48%?* Or that more than two million people in the UK are living with sight loss*, with only 1 in 4 blind and partially sighted people of working age in employment?+ However, it doesn’t have to be this way – by raising awareness and engagement we can help overcome these barriers and develop career pathways in the insurance industry to give people with sight loss the independence and meaning that employment brings.
